Tunc Tezel - Orion Dawn Over Mount Nemrut

Forty kilometers north of Kahta, Turkey, lies Mount Nemrut, a mountain adorned with the fragments of vast statues built over 2000 years ago. Zeus' head can be found near the above image's center, while the king's head is seen next closest to the horizon. Orion is above in the night sky.

This came from a great site, Astronomy Picture of the Day. Today the photographer was Tunc Tezel and I met him in 2007, at the Solar Eclipse in Side, Turkey. Tezel is a leading amateur astronomer and night sky photographer living in Turkey. He is know for the first Analemma photograph made of a solar eclipse.
