2018-05-10 - Avignon

Today was Mother’s Day. Not the one we all celebrate on Sunday, but a day of worrying about my mother at home.
Lee, Govi and Naga on IRD
Shelley and Lindsey’s visit found Lee listless and unable to get out of bed. She reports falling in the shower the day before. Prior to that, she was refusing help from dear Rita, who visited and found her beautifully dressed and fussy. Normally that is enough to say that she is okeydokey in the world. That’s just how quick things can change from fine to not so much.

I woke up to an alarmed letter from the family. Come home, it said. Oy. We have the travel insurance and since I had been trying to handle things from afar without much success, it seemed like my fate was set. Luckily there was a doctor visit already planned for the day.

On their birthday!

Sometimes it’s hard not to give fuck, shake myself off and go about my business of travel and adventure. To say I was a cranky so and so, is an understatement. Poor, poor Harvahal. So, we planned nothing for the day, except to sit around near the wifi, to handle calls and figure things out.
We began to research our best bet to return home in the air and on the land. It’s 3 hours to Paris by the TGV-fast train, 5 hours to Barcelona  All were options for escape.

Long story short, Lee’s wise doctor recommended rehab. Lee felt so very bad, she accepted.
Lee does not remember well her first visit to Health South Rehab, after her stroke. She snuck out (escaped) and was walking the street in front, waiting on her boyfriend and his get away car. The entirety of the facility was looking for her, including the CEO. They found her before he could arrive. They put her in the lock up unit reserved for Alzheimer’s patients. She also was able to sneak out pf there too.
She would kill me if she could see that I posted this picture

Good luck Health South!
